Pension Contributions & Annual Leave

Pension Contribution

The Connexion states that all Lay Employees are given the opportunity to have an employer/employee contributory pension, and the recommendation is that each party should contribute a minimum of 6%.  However, the MCH website states that an individual personal pension does not count as a suitable alternative.  Please note that this is misleading and indeed not the case.  For Circuits and Churches that use the PAYE scheme run by the Connexion to pay their Lay Employees, then for reasons of administration it is necessary for the Methodist Church Pension Trust to be used, but for Circuits/Churches that are running their own PAYE system, then the pension provision can be made via the Lay Employee’s own personal pension.  For ease of admin etc most Treasurers would find it easier to make an annual payment but this is at their own discretion.

Annual Leave

Statutory minimum Annual Leave entitlement from 1st April, 2009 is 28 days inclusive of Bank Holidays for a full time post.   If you need help calculating Annual Leave there is a good calculator on www.businesslink.gov.uk.   Go to Employing People/Working time and time off/calculate your employee’s holiday entitlement).  If the employment is part time there is also a Bank Holiday Calculator on the MCH website.
